Backup Giants ruck Matthew Flynn has formally requested a move, alerting GWS to his desire to land at Lathlain and join West Coast.

Flynn's AFL life may have begun after being selected with the 41st pick of the 2015 draft, however, the Narrandera native wouldn't make his league debut until Round 1 of the 2021 season.

Having won the starting ruck role from Brayden Preuss ahead of his sixth season in the Harbour City, Flynn would go on to wear the charcoal and orange on 24 occasions across the course of 2021 and 2022.

However, following the ascent of fellow ruck Kieran Briggs in 2023, the 26-year-old was demoted back to his role as understudy, featuring just nine times during Adam Kingsley's first year as coach.

Out of contract at Tom Wills Oval, and unwilling to duke it out for the main job, Flynn requested a trade to the Eagles on Wednesday, as per reports from Riley Beveridge of AFL Media.

Following the retirement of decorated big man Nic Naitanui, the Eagles have a dearth of genuine ruck options, outside of Bailey J. Williams, meaning Flynn will see himself as odds on to win the starting job during the upcoming summer.

Flynn has produced averages of 23.76 hitouts, 2.85 marks and 11.45 disposals across the course of his 33 league outings- markers Williams has not met during his 49 games in blue and gold.

At present, the Eagles are currently armed with the 1st, 20th, 34th, 39th, 53rd and 58th picks at the 2023 AFL Draft, yet, as Flynn is set to depart as an unrestricted free agent, unless the Giants table a counter offer, West Coast won't be forced to part with any picks.
