Carlton has confirmed that No.1 draft pick Jacob Weitering will make his debut against Richmond on Thursday night.

“Yeah, I can confirm that,” coach Brendon Bolton said of Weitering’s inclusion in the side.

“Day one it was about him earning a spot and he wasn’t entitled to anything. But this one he is entitled to. He gets his first chance.”

Bolton also confirmed that captain Marc Murphy will also be named after overcoming a shoulder injury which restricted his pre-season preparation.

“Yeah, Murphy will play. We have been really conservative with him. It’s great to have your skipper out there for Round 1. The players are ready and we have selected a team that we think will put up a real right against Richmond,” he said.
