The forward tried out for the San Diego Chargers in 1994, but only made the practice squad.
The next season, he went on to become the Chargers' lead punter in his rookie season, also becoming the oldest rookie in NFL history.
In his rookie season who would go on to make the AFC Pro Bowl and finished second in punting average for the whole league.
He became arguably the best punter of the 1990s and was named punter of the NFL's All-Decade team, and was eventually inducted into the Chargers Hall of Fame.
