AFL.com's Mitch Cleary has confirmed that Essendon will meet Sydney in round two at the SCG under the bright lights of Friday night footy.

The intrigue surrounding this game will be enormous given Joe Daniher's trade request to join the Swans fell through.

It is understood Sydney approached Daniher during the back half of 2019 about a potential move up north.

The Bombers remained bullish about retaining their star forward for another season and have praised Daniher's character throughout the process.

By the end of the trade deadline the Bombers held strong about keeping the 25-year-old and eventually were unsatisfied with Sydney's offer. Essendon wanted a player in return and the Swans we'rent willing to send one across.

Daniher, a member of the famous football name has battled over the past two years with persistent groin injuries.

The encounter in Round 2 will be the first time Daniher will play the Swans since their disastrous 65-point elimination final loss in 2017.
