Fremantle's push for a premiership has been dealt a massive blow with a star player ruled out for the rest of the home and away season.

Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his pectoralis major tendon on Saturday night.

Ballantyne was subbed out at half time after being injured in a tackle from Marc Murphy.

Scans revealed earlier today that the small forward will require surgery this week. The Dockers have not put a definite time frame on the recovery, however, indicated that he would miss at least the rest of the home and away season.
