Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has shared his concerns around player safety with the state of the SCG ahead of his club's clash with Sydney on Sunday.

The Swans hosted the Western Bulldogs on Friday night, with those watching the contest noticing players slipping over and struggling to keep their feet.

Longmuir, who attended the clash between the two opposition clubs, revealed that the AFL had approached the Dockers about the surface of the oval, which could be worsened by the expected rainfall throughout the week.

The SCG also hosted an Andrea Bocelli concert in April.

"I watched the game on Friday night, and we'll be led by the AFL. But the moment my brain goes to, 'That's unsafe for players', I have a concern," Longmuir said following Sunday's win over St Kilda.

"I went there on Friday night. I thought at times it was unsafe to play on.

"We just can't put players out there and risk their safety if the ground's not right, and I thought it was a bit unsafe the other night, especially down the left-hand side.

"I don't make those decisions, and fully understand that both teams are playing on the same surface.

"So, if the AFL deem it safe to play, we'll play, and I won't speak another moment of it. But I thought it was unsafe the other night.

"The AFL approached us and they're going to look at it, like they should. They've got the experts and we will be guided by them".

Given it's Sydney's home game, venues such as Accor or Showgrounds Homebush pose as potential options if the AFL deem the SCG not able to provide safe conditions for the players.
