The Fremantle Dockers have announced that duo Connor Blakely and Joel Western will not be offered new contracts.

Blakey managed 78 games for the Dockers after being drafted in 2014 but fell out of favour in 2020 and only managed 18 games in his final three seasons on the list with two of those being as an unused medi-sub last year.

All of them coming in 2020 and 2021 with the midfielder failing to make an appearance this campaign.

He managed 17 games in 2017 and averaged 24 disposals per game and backed that up with 13 games in 2018 where he again averaged 24 disposals a game.

Western was drafted with pick 54 in 2020 and played four games in his debut season but didn't manage a game in 2022.

Head of Player Personnel David Walls paid tribute to the duo and what they had brought to the Cockburn club during their respective stints.

“It’s a difficult time of year when we have to make the tough decisions around our playing list and I’d like to acknowledge the contributions of both Connor and Joel to the club,” Walls said.

“Connor has played a significant amount of football for us over a seven-year period, including 13 games in 2021 where he was primarily used in the difficult role of being our medical sub.

“We should also acknowledge his important contribution with Peel Thunder as a Simpson Medalist in their inaugural premiership side as well as winning their best and fairest in 2015.

“Joel has had a long association with Fremantle, coming up through our Next Generation Academy, and it will be sad to see both him and Connor leave the club.”
