Veteran Fremantle defender Nathan Wilson was spotted wearing a black cast on his right hand during the club's training session on Thursday.

It is understood the 30-year-old broke his finger in a boating accident over the past weekend, leaving him restricted to running for the next fortnight, per reports from The West Australian.

It is a rough start to 2023 for the former Giant who only managed two games last year as he fell out of favour.

In other potential injury news, fellow defender Alex Pearce may be facing another layoff after leaving training early.

The 27-year-old looked in great shape in several drills before what looked to maybe be another leg injury.

A problem throughout his career, leg injuries have restricted the Tasmanian to 80 games in nine seasons, including zero in 2017 and 2020.

Pearce spent time with a trainer on the sidelines, pointing to his right leg and looking uncomfortable.

The key defender managed to continue with some light drills before leaving early as the other players moved to higher intensity.

Pearce has been tipped to be a potential next captain and played a key role in Freo's rise in 2022, with 21 appearances.
