Upcoming free agent Tom Lynch is expected to remain co-captain of the Suns alongside Steven May.

The pair co-captained the club in 2017 following Gary Ablett's decision to vacate the position, yet there has been no official announcement on the Gold Coast leadership structure for 2018.

Suns coach Stuart Dew believes in the co-captaincy model after seeing it work to full effect during his days as an assistant coach at Sydney.

The rest of the leadership group also remains uncertain, with younger pairing David Swallow and Touk Miller accompanied by older players Matt Rosa, Michael Barlow and Michael Rischitelli taking up the roles in 2017.

Midfielder Jarryd Lyons could be set for a leadership role, and spoke glowingly about the club's fresh start post Gary Ablett era.

โ€œStu wasnโ€™t ever there when Gary was, so he really had nothing to do with that, never mentioned it and it made the transition a pretty simple one,โ€ Lyons said.

โ€œHe never had a chance to worry about it.โ€

Lyons also spoke of the use of technology incorporated into the Suns training sessions, with the use of overhead drones taking footage of the sessions whilst loud music is also being played to replicate a game day atmosphere.

โ€œItโ€™s definitely different...Iโ€™m into my eighth season now and a lot has changed since I started,โ€ said Lyons.

โ€œThe key thing is technology, lots of cameras and programs and drones and lots of reviewing.

โ€œVision review suits me, everyoneโ€™s different, but it definitely works for me, but it means thereโ€™s definitely no hiding out there.โ€

Heading into his second season at the Gold Coast, Lyons is hoping his injury-free pre-season can result in a big year playing through the midfield.

The former Crow averaged 25 touches and kicked 10 goals in 18 games for the Suns in 2017, and is looking to improve his output further this season.

โ€œIโ€™m running better and have had more time on the track; personally to not have missed a session so far this preseason is a big thing for me,โ€ Lyons said.

โ€œ(Without Ablett) itโ€™s up to the rest of us, as a group, to step up and fill that void.โ€
