Western Bulldogs assistant coach Daniel Pratt has confirmed he is interested in the vacant North Melbourne senior coaching position following Alastair Clarkson's departure.
Pratt, a former Kangaroos defender, has made no secret of his desire to step into a senior coaching role and had previously shown interest in the Carlton and Essendon positions.
The 43-year-old has now made it clear that Arden Street is where he wants to continue his coaching journey.
"It's of interest to me. I'm a North Melbourne person," Pratt said on SEN's Captain's Run.
“When you're a past player of any club, you always have interest.
“So I am interested in that role, and we'll just see where that leads the next few weeks."
SEN reported earlier this week that Pratt is among the candidates North Melbourne has contacted during the early stages of its search for its next senior coach.
Pratt had two terms at North Melbourne, from 2001-2002 and 2005-2011. In his second stint he played 166 games for the Roos.
Now in his coaching career, Pratt has been with the Western Bulldogs since the end of 2023 and was named the AFL Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2024.
Earlier in his career, Pratt became the Eagles' backline coach under former teammate Adam Simpson, helping the club to its 2018 premiership. He also spent the 2021 season as West Coast's AFLW senior coach.
Former North Melbourne president James Brayshaw has called for the club's football department to review internally beyond just appointing a new senior coach.
Speaking on Triple M's The Rush Hour with JB and Billy, Brayshaw discussed Simpson's decision to withdraw from the North Melbourne coaching race and suggested the club could be looking towards an untried senior coach.
The former Kangaroos president urged that appointing a new senior coach should not bring the club's wider review to an end.
"But let me just say this, for North; yes, you've changed your senior coach, and you've got to appoint another one, that's a given but you've got to keep looking," Brayshaw said.
"How's the rest of your footy department? How's your medical (department), your physios, your assistant coaches, your welfare, your development?
"There's so much more than just a senior coach attached to making your business work, so I hope they're not finishing that review now that they've got a coach out."
Brayshaw served as North Melbourne president from late 2007 to the end of 2016 and remains a prominent media figure.
