Former Brisbane player Albert Proud could face lengthy jail time for bashing his girlfriend late last year.

Proud has had his attempted murder charge dropped, however, he pleaded guilty in a Brisbane court on Thursday to grievous bodily harm and wilful damage and is still set to face a lengthy time behind bars.

Proud's now ex-girlfriend was beaten so badly last November, that she suffered severe brain injuries.

Proud played 29 games for the Lions between 2007 and 2010.

He will be sentenced at a Brisbane Court at a later date.
