Former Adelaide Crows ruckman Paul Hunter will train with St Kilda in a bid to earn an AFL lifeline.

The 27-year old was set to play another season at SANFL club South Adelaide but will now get a two-week trial for a vacant list spot at the Saints.

South Adelaide confirmed Hunter was invited to train with St Kilda in a statement on their club website.

"The South Adelaide Football Club was advised on Sunday afternoon that Paul Hunter has been invited to train with St Kilda Football Club for the next two weeks of pre-season," the statement reads.

"It is understood the Saints will make a decision at the end of that two weeks on whether Paul will fill one of their remaining list spots."

Hunter spent four years on Adelaide's list from 2016-2019 but failed to play a senior game.

Originally set to play for Williamstown last year, Hunter moved to South Adelaide after the VFL season was postponed due to COVID-19.

He played nine matches in a strong season, getting named in the SANFL Team of the Year.

St Kilda added former Kangaroo Mason Wood to its list last week and still have two spots to fill ahead of the fill ahead of the March 9 Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) deadline.

They could hold the list spots over to the June Mid-Season Draft.
