Woodville-West Torrens premiership forward Troy Menzel has officially confirmed he will retire from SANFL football at the end of this season.

With the Eagles qualifying for this year's finals series, Menzel can add at least one more game to his storied career should he be selected for the clash with Glenelg this weekend.

A member of the Eagles' 2021 premiership team along with brother Daniel, Menzel has played 100 SANFL matches and kicked 147 goals since making his debut as a 16-year-old in 2011.

Originally a Central District junior from Golden Grove, Menzel played nine league games for the Dogs before being selected by Carlton with Pick 11 in the 2012 National Draft.

Menzel played 40 games for the Blues across three seasons before being traded to Adelaide at the end of 2015, where he added four more AFL games to his tally until his delisting in 2017.

While at the Crows, he played 30 SANFL games for the tri-colours, kicking 45 goals as he helped propel them to a preliminary final appearance in 2016.

The 188cm forward spent a year with Tea Tree Gully in Divison 1 of the Adelaide Footy League, kicking 58 goals in 21 games and winning best-on-ground honours in the Gullies' grand final triumph.

It wasn't long before SANFL footy came calling, returning to Central District the following year, where he played a further 26 games across the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Both Menzel brothers transferred to Woodville-West Torrens for the 2021 season, where they would go on to be crucial members of the Eagles' premiership side, with Troy kicking three goals in the grand final triumph.

Battling persistent injury issues over the last three seasons, the 29-year-old has only managed nine senior matches this year as a hamstring injury has kept him on the sidelines.

With sublime goal sense and the ability to kick goals from just about anywhere, Menzel was a terrific hybrid forward who could compete in the air and remain dangerous at ground level.

He recently notched up his 100th SANFL game against one of his old clubs the Crows in Round 16 at Woodville.

Woodville-West Torrens take on Glenelg in the elimination final this Sunday at Adelaide Oval, with the winner to move through to the first semi-final the following week.
