Former Western Bulldogs and Carlton defender Liam Jones has found a new home, joining QAFL club Palm Beach Currumbin for 2022.

The 30-year-old is set to join the Lions as both a player and coach, having retired from the AFL after deciding not to receive the mandated COVID-19 vaccine.

Palm Beach Currumbin revealed on Friday that joins will join the Gold Coast club following his 161-game AFL career.

The club announced the signing of Jones via Facebook, expressing their delight to have the talented key defender join their premiership push for this year.

"Palm Beach Currumbin AFC are excited to announce the recruitment of Liam Jones former Carlton and Western Bulldogs defender for 2022," the post reads.

"Liam has relocated to the top end of the east coast after his retirement from the AFL in November 2021 to try his hand at grass roots football. As a player and coach, Liam is excited to participate in a more relaxed approach to football and Palm Beach is his club of choice.

"Besides being a great player, Liam will also provide PBC with expertise in coaching and mentoring making him an amazing asset to the club.

"Supporters, sponsors, and players are excited about Liam joining PBC and we ask you all to welcome him to the club. Liam will be (sic) at the first training session for the year on Monday 17th January 2022."

Jones' AFL career began in 2008 when he was drafted to the Bulldogs, where he made his debut in 2010 against North Melbourne.

The North Hobart product played 66 games at the Kennel, commonly as a forward, before being traded to Carlton ahead of the 2015 season.

Jones' traits soon turned to defence at Princes Park, with the Blues best utilising the 199cm tall as a key backman.

The new role saw Jones transition into a prolific pillar for Carlton in defence, pairing with star defender Jacob Weitering.

Having decided to retire in November, Jones concluded his 95-game stint with the Blues after seven seasons at the club.

Jones will join former Collingwood forward Jack Anthony in representing Palm Beach Currumbin for 2022.
