Hawthorn defender Jarman Impey may have had his season cut short.

After an ankle injury sustained at training on Thursday, Impey has been sent for further scans to determine the significance of the injury, per AFL.com.au.

The 25-year-old will miss this week's clash against Greater Western Sydney, and there are genuine fears that his season may be over.

For the struggling Hawks and Impey, the injury is a bitter blow after having a career year in 2021.

Impey has thrived playing off half-back this season, averaging 22.2 disposals and 5.4 marks per game under Alastair Clarkson in 2021.

The pacey Hawks defender joined the club at the end of the 2017 season and has played 59 games in the brown and gold since.
