It's good news for footy fans in Queensland wishing to head to the Gabba and Metricon this weekend as the Queensland government has given the green light for fans to head to the matches.

Although there is one catch - the Gabba and Metricon are only allowed up to 2,000 fans in for the Brisbane Lions and West Coast Eagles clash and Gold Coast Suns vs Adelaide clash as the state is easing its coronavirus restrictions this weekend.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the good news for AFL loving fans on her Twitter page.

"Up to 2000 fans can return to Queensland’s stadiums from this weekend,” her tweet said.

“Queenslanders have done an incredible job smashing the curve, and codes have done their part to develop COVID Safe plans to keep fans safe.

“It’s another positive step on our road back to normal and I know Queenslanders are eager to get back to games to cheer on our teams.”
