Each year AFL coaches are either put under scrutiny or praised for what they have done with the club's list and where their side has finished at the end of the year.

Whether it's a club going through a rebuild, a premiership contender, or a side failing to fulfil expectations, here is every coach ranked as safe, pressure-building, or under the pump heading into the 2027 season.

Chris Scott (Geelong)

Safe

The longest-serving coach in Cats history, Scott is one of the elite coaches of the AFL and is still showing why in his 16th year with Geelong. Taking over in 2011, Scott wasted no time showing how good he is, guiding the Cats to his first premiership as a coach.

He has had one losing season in his entire coaching career, as well as two premierships, and 2026 will add yet another finals series to his outstanding resume.

Not much else needs to be said about Scott; he is currently still contracted until 2029, and if more success follows between now and then, he could even go for longer.
