Every AFL club's squad for the 2027 season is coming together, so how does each team's back, midfield and forward line stack up with their rivals?

We at Zero Hanger will be going through all 18 clubs analysing and ranking them 1-18 across all three thirds of the ground, starting with the backline.

While the draft, delisted free agent signing period and trial spots remain for clubs to recruit players, the majority of each team's starting 23 are in place.

Focusing on the players at their disposal, their style of football in 2026, and with a look forward to Round 1, 2027, this is how we ranked every club 1-18 for its defence.

14. Port Adelaide

Defenders: Kane Farrell, Josh Sinn, Jack Lukosius, Miles Bergman, Aliir Aliir, Logan Evans, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Esava Ratugolea, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Lachlan Jones, Harrison Ramm, Balyn O'Brien, Josh Lai

The Power are in the midst of a rebuild, but their defensive base is strong for a club that will be going to the draft over the next few years.

Aliir Aliir is an outstanding player and should have been rewarded with a second all-Australian blazer this year.

Darcy Byrne-Jones got back to some good football off halfback while Kane Farrell is an excellent distributor for the Power.

Josh Lai has shown plenty of promise and if Jack Lukosius can get his body fit, that is another interceptor/distributor at Port Adelaide's disposal.

Miles Bergman has been floated as a midfield option but his best football seems to be in the backline.

Josh Carr's men ranked mid-table for points against this year, a credit to a side that finished in the bottom four. What needs to happen next is for the Power to turn that defensive prowess into a counterattacking punch to help produce scores.
