Every AFL club's 2027 out-of-contract players

Who will Tasmania have in its sights as they plan to enter the AFL? Every side in the competition has a list of priorities, locking away free agents, the club's youth or ensuring there's enough depth going forward. On the flip side, there's tough conversations to be had regarding some players' futures. The list of 2027 AFL out-of-contract players is long. Can the Devils pick any of them off? Take a look! Adelaide The Crows don't have a heap of work to do regarding players contracted until next year, but will make Izak Rankine and Sid Draper a priority. Luke Nankervis is quickly emerging as a star defender, while Ben Keays, Rory Laird and Lachlan McAndrew should receive extensions. A big watch on captain Alex Pearce, with Tasmania's imminent AFL arrival a potential speed bump in securing his services beyond 2027. Karl Worner, Heath Chapman and Luke Ryan are regulars in the backline, while Jeremy Sharp, Brandon Walker and Josh Draper have all played senior football. The Suns trio have led the club from irrelevancy into finals last year. Essendon has already sounded out Miller, while Victorian clubs will no doubt come hard for Rowell and Anderson, as they have done before. The Giants need to retain both to push for finals contention, or fear the rebuild. A watch on Sam Butler, who is an AFL player but has struggled to play consistent senior football due to form and injury. He previously received interest from West Coast. The pieces will fall around those two, especially if Zak Butters leaves this year. Priorities will include Sam Lalor and Taj Hotton, while Tassie duo Sam Banks and Rhyan Mansell are ones to watch. Key forwards Jonty Faull and Harry Armstong are deemed the future of the Richmond front half, and what does the club do with Josh Smillie? The star Saint received heavy interest from South Australian clubs, and that chase will ramp up again. St Kilda will have a busy list management period year in 2027. Aside from NAS, Rowan Marshall is contracted until next year, but does go for the door at the end of the season? Hugo Garcia and Max Gall are close with Wanganeen-Milera, but do they star if he goes? Callum Wilkie has been a targey of rival clubs for years, and considered a move to the Western Bulldogs last year. Charlie Banfield, Hunter Clark, Lance Collard, Kye Fincher, Hugo Garcia, Max Hall, Angus Hastie, Liam Henry, Bradley Hill, Jack Macrae, Rowan Marshall, Jack Sinclair, Alixzander Tauru, Tobie Travaglia, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Callum Wilkie, Mason Wood Sydney The Chad is a must lock for the Swans, and all indications, to the disdain of Western Australia clubs, appears likely to remain in the Harbour City. It is hard to see the likes of Matt Roberts, Brodie Grundy, Angus Sheldrick, Tom McCartin, Will Edwards and Lewis Melican depart either. As for the rest, such as Hayden McLean and Peter Ladhams, more opportunity at rival clubs could be the pitch to lure them out of Sydney. Harry Edwards is under strong supervision regarding his concussion problems, and although he hasn't been medically retired, is a watch going forward. What do veterans Tim Kelly and Elliot Yeo do? Is there room for small forward Matthew Owies? Sandy Brock and Hamish Davis are developing nicely as Eagles defenders. James O'Donnell and Rory Lobb are settled at the Whitten Oval, as is Matthew Kennedy, who plays a selfless role for Luke Beveridge every week. Does Riley Garcia, who has a long history with injury, seek a fresh start at the end of his contract?
