Zach Reid and Harrison Jones have both suffered injuries that have them out for an extended period of time.

Reid only just played one quarter of his second game in the VFL after returning from a back injury before sustaining a hamstring strain which will rule him out for close to six weeks.

Jones advised the club of some soreness in his back in the latter part of last week with medical testing diagnosing him with a stress issue in his back.

Daniel McPherson, general manager of performance for the Bombers, spoke to Essendon Media on the pair of injury issues.

"Zach sustained a hamstring injury during his second game back in the VFL."

"He was scanned and at this stage it's looking like a six-week return to play timeframe that we're working towards.

"Jonesy' experienced some soreness last Friday at training. He was scanned on Friday afternoon and further investigation was carried out on Monday, which indicated a stress-related issue in his back."

Essendon has also stated that defender Jordan Ridley is recovering well and is expected to play against Richmond at Dreamtime at the 'G next weekend.

The two injuries received on the weekend increase Essendon's injury list to 10 players.
