Essendon legend Kevin Sheedy has revealed the reason behind stopping departing fans from leaving Marvel Stadium was an advertisement for DiDi.
Vision of Sheedy denying supporters, who were paid actors, the chance to leave went viral on social media. He explained the ride-share company has a "sore loser saver" where the longer fans stay at the games, the cheaper the ride home can be.
“I was doing an ad for DiDi,” Sheedy said on SEN.
“So that's what it was all about. It's probably been a little bit misconstrued from some of the media boys and ladies, but anyway.

“DiDi has a sore loser saver where if you stay at the game longer you get a half-price DiDi drive home.
“That was all about a lot of fun with a couple of actors. Everyone thought it was a serious negotiation going on.
“I'm finishing the ad right now at Marvel Stadium. I told everybody in the news that I'm still at the stadium and haven't left after the St Kilda game.
“I still have a bit of fun even though the Bombers are down.”
Sheedy was donning a GWS scarf in the video.
