Essendon forward Nate Caddy has opened up on his decision to recommit to Essendon until the end of 2031.
Speaking on 7 News, explained that he was in it for the long haul and is confident about the foundation being established at Essendon.
"A player from another club might wonder why or be more attracted to the offer because of someone showing a bit of faith," Caddy said on Wednesday night.
"In The Hangar, there's all the premiership cups and there's one that says '17' with dot, dot, dot waiting there so I'm waiting for the day that I can be the one to lift that cup."
He has quickly established himself as a standard-setter and young leader at Essendon, working hard in a forward line starved of opportunity this year.
Caddy also addressed his radio comments earlier in the year which at the time was viewed by some as a warning to the club that they needed to improve if he was to stick around long term.
"Mediocrity in a professional sport where you're paid to be the best you can, it's like if you sit a whole career being mediocre, no-one will remember you," Caddy noted.
"Your career didn't mean much because what is there to say about it?"
Essendon list boss Matt Rosa praised Caddy's re-signing at the time.
“Nate's re-signing is a powerful statement of belief in this footy club, and we're thrilled he's committed his future to Essendon,” Rosa said.
“Nate has made it clear he wants to be part of leading this club back up the ladder. That ambition is exactly what we want at the core of this list.
“He's a young leader of this group already. Players are drawn to him, and his commitment to what we're building has never wavered. Securing him through to 2031 is great for our football club.
“Our members and fans have taken to Nate from day one. He plays the sort of footy that gets people off their seats, and knowing he'll be doing it in the red and black for years to come is something for every Essendon person to be excited about."
