West Coast have offered key defender Jeremy McGovern a $4 million deal over five years to quickly secure the services of the free agent star.

Jake Niall of The Age reported that the offer was roughly $800,000 a year in order to lock away the restricted free agent before rival clubs come circling with significant offers.

The two-time All-Australian averaged 16.4 disposals and 7.7 marks in another stellar season in 2017, continuing his run as one of the premier key-position players in the AFL.

McGovern is one of a host of elite players coming into free agency this year, with the Eagles backman accompanied by Suns' skipper Tom Lynch and Crows' midfielder Rory Sloane.

All three players are restricted free agents, meaning their current club holds the rights to match any offer from a rival club, a scenario which is yet to occur since the introduction of free agency in 2012.

Cross-town rival Fremantle is believed to have strong interest in McGovern's services after missing out on his brother Mitch last year, but will likely have to pay in excess of $900,000 a year to sign the intercept-marking machine.

Both Sloane and Lynch grew up in Victoria and are expected to attract significant interest from multiple clubs, with Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn likely to offer Lynch in excess of $1 million a year.
