West Coast legend Peter Matera is recovering in hospital after suffering a severe heart attack on Monday.
Matera's former South Fremantle teammate Brad Hardie told the unfortunate news to 6PR in Perth, stating the 53-year-old suffered a severe heart attack and is currently recovering in a hospital in Bendigo.
"He's in hospital in Bendigo right now... two stents in his heart and rehabilitating as we speak," Hardie said.
At the present, no further details have been revealed.
Matera played 253 games for the Eagles after debuting in 1990. He kicked 217 goals averaging around 18 disposals for his career before retiring in 2002.
Matera's 18 disposal, five-goal outing during the 1992 grand final saw the now 53-year-old earn the Norm Smith Medal during West Coast's 28-point victory over Geelong.
The Western Australian also claimed five All-Australian blazers across the course of his dominant career spent entirely in blue and gold.
