Richmond's depth has taken a hit during the VFL side's hitout with the AFL Academy on Saturday, with young pair Luke Trainor and Zane Peucker amassing injuries early into the showcase contest.

Peucker was helped from the Princes Park field and taken into the rooms in the opening minutes of the game after suffering a suspected knee injury.

Saturday's contest is just the fourth appearance in yellow and black for Peucker, who joined Richmond from South Australia as the 31st overall pick in last year's AFL Draft.

Trainor came from the field midway through the opening term with a leg injury, limping to the interchange before undergoing further assessment.

Both Richmond players did not return to the game.

The double injury concern comes as senior coach Adem Yze looks to utilise a depleted senior side six rounds into the AFL season, with Tom Lynch (hamstring), Toby Nankervis (hamstring), Rhyan Mansell (foot), Josh Smillie (quad), Taj Hotton (hip) and Harry Armstrong (foot) among those currently sidelined.

Trainor was dropped for this weekend's clash with North Melbourne, with Tom Brown and Oliver Hayes-Brown also dropped and featuring against the AFL Academy.

Sam Cumming, James Trezise, Tom Burton and Noah Roberts-Thomson are the other AFL-listed Tigers who faced the AFL Academy.

Richmond opted to manage midfielder Jacob Hopper for Round 6, with Hugo Ralphsmith, Kane McAuliffe and Samson Ryan joining debutant Patrick Retschko in earning a promotion this week.

The Tigers are the only side without a win in 2026, with matchups against Melbourne, West Coast and Adelaide to follow Sunday's hitout with the Kangaroos.
