Fremantle Docker Jye Amiss and Giant Josh Fahey are will be placed on the sidelines for an extended period after the pair suffered injuries over the weekend playing for their side's reserves.

In a cruel blow, Amiss suffered a serious impact injury while playing for Peel in the WAFL on the weekend, and, while he hasn't been ruled out for the season, looks set to miss a large chunk of his maiden campaign.

Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell told fremantlefc.com.au that the young forward sustained a kidney injury in a contest against South Fremantle, leaving him in hospital for treatment.

"Jye sustained a pretty heavy impact injury to his kidney in the game against South Fremantle. He had to go to hospital, he's had some surgery on that kidney," Bell said.

"He's doing well at the moment and we're just getting all the opinions as to what it means for his football, but he'll be out for a period of time."

Amiss, who was drafted Pick 8 in last year's National Draft, made his debut in Round 8 against North Melbourne, kicking two goals in an impressive debut before being dropped the following week as more experienced players returned from the sidelines.

Meanwhile, the Giants have confirmed that untried draftee Josh Fahey will miss the rest of the season after a shoulder dislocation during GWS' VFL match on Sunday.

Picked with the 41st pick last year, GIANTS Head of Medical James Rahme said that Fahey will undergo a reconstruction, but is confident his rehab will put him in a good place to make some strides next season.

"Josh injured his shoulder during a football incident in the game on Sunday," Rahme told gwsgiants.com.au.

"He was ruled out of the game and scans on Monday showed that he'll require a shoulder reconstruction. He'll go in for surgery next week.

"It's disappointing for Josh that he'll miss the rest of the season but he'll learn a lot from the rehab process and will be in a really good position to attack the next pre-season."
