Don Pyke won't pursue the vacant Essendon senior coach role despite having his name thrown into the conversation, preferring to remain at the Swans.

Pyke, who served as senior coach at Adelaide from 2016-2019, now works under John Longmire as an assistant, part of the team helping the Swans win their way through to the grand final next Saturday.

Speaking to ABC Sport, Pyke confirmed that he had a conversation with the Bombers, but wasn't interested in taking things further.

“I’m really enjoying what I’m doing here (in Sydney),” Pyke told ABC Sport.

“You come across to a club you haven’t been associated with and I’ve been fortunate to join at an exciting time.

“I had a chat to the Bombers, but at this stage, I’m not pursuing that."

James Hird, Adem Yze, Brendon Lade and Dean Solomon have all confirmed their interest in the position, taking part in interviews with the six-person panel tasked with finding Essendon's next coach.

The Bombers have previously confirmed that they are seeking a coach with previous experience to join the club.
