Former Western Bulldogs coach Terry Wallace believes some of Ryan Gardner's teammates will be a little upset with his selection, as he looks set to make his debut on Sunday.

Gardner was recruited by the Dogs from Footscray's VFL team during the mid-season draft on Monday night, and has been fast-tracked into the Dogs' 22 for this weekend.

“You’ll have a player or a few players that would be nose out of joint,” he told The Match Committee.

“I mean, he touched it three times in the VFL on the weekend but that’s not his role.

“He would play, I would think, as a defender but he could play as a forward.

“He’s played at either end of the ground all the way through his career.

“I know it’s a needs basis and the bigs have been causing the Bulldogs problems all year but from what I know, he’s not a player that’s dominated at the next level of recent times.”
