Collingwood have confirmed defender Brayden Maynard was unharmed in a "minor car accident" on Monday.

Maynard, who was driving to Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway early in the morning, missed his side's training session as a result of the incident.

As revealed by 7 News, Maynard and another driver were involved in an accident that left neither party harmed.

“Collingwood confirms Brayden Maynard was involved in a very minor car accident earlier this morning,” a club statement provided to the network read.

“Importantly, no one was hurt. Brayden exchanged contact details with the other driver with only minor damage to the exterior of Brayden's vehicle.”

Reporter Mitch Cleary revealed that witnesses on the freeway alerted police of a car which matched the description of Maynard's "swerving and cutting off other cars".

“Police have confirmed to 7 NEWS that witnesses informed them a car matching the description of his was seen in the area swerving and cutting off other cars before 6:00am on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway,” Cleary said on Monday evening.

Maynard is currently in rehabilitation from off-season shoulder surgery that has forced him into an extended recovery period.

The premiership defender is expected to be available in time for Collingwood's pre-season schedule after recently lifting his training workloads.

The Magpies are set to face Richmond and North Melbourne next month as part of their pre-season run into the home and away season, which will commence with an Opening Round clash against GWS at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday, March 9.
