Melbourne finalised its list for the 2023 AFL season after signing defensive option Kye Turner on the final day of the pre-season supplemental selection period.
Turner, 21, spent the summer training with Simon Goodwin's side, eventually edging out fellow SSP hopeful and former Port Adelaide listee Trent Burgoyne for the last locker in the Demons' rooms.
Having missed out on draft selection after plying his trade with the Sandringham Dragons in 2021, Turner featured twice for the Frankston Dolphins last year, averaging 11.5 disposals and 3 marks.
โWe are really pleased to offer Kye a spot on our Rookie List. He thoroughly deserves his chance after a really strong pre-season with us,โ Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb told Melbourne Media.
โHaving never been exposed to the elite junior talent pathway, we have been impressed with how Kye has not only adapted to but thrived in our environment.
โHe has a lot of tools in his game and real appetite to improve, which give us confidence he will develop into a really good player for us.โ
Turner will earn further opportunities to impress when the Demons do battle with St Kilda and Richmond in their pair of pre-season clashes.
Clubs will need to finalise their lists and complete any SSP signings by the close of business on Wednesday.
