Recently delisted Gold Coast defender Rhys Nicholls has joined SANFL side West Adelaide for the 2023 season.

Nicholls, who was drafted to the Suns via the 2020 Rookie Draft as an Academy selection, joins the Bloods after just two seasons at AFL level, where he went unused under Stuart Dew.

The 20-year-old played 18 games in the Suns' VFL side in 2022, averaging 13.4 disposals, 3.3 marks and 1.3 inside 50s as a rebounding option out of defence to help lead the Queensland club to a preliminary final finish.

The Labrador product is now set to venture to South Australia to continue his career, joining West Adelaide for next year.

“I'm really looking forward to arriving in Adelaide. Meeting everyone and getting to work with my team mates," Nicholls told club media.

Nicholls isn't the only recently departed Suns player landing in SA for the next 12 months, with Jez McLennan, who was also let go by Gold Coast this year, joining Central Districts this off-season.
