Departed GWS defender Josh Fahey has landed in the SANFL for the 2026 season, signing with Central District following his AFL exit.

The 21-year-old was one of two Giants players cut by the club at the end of their recent campaign, with swingman Wade Derksen the other not offered a new contract.

Fahey played seven games for GWS across four years with the New South Wales club after being drafted out of the Giants' junior pathways program.

All of his appearances at AFL level came in 2023, with Fahey featuring in the VFL on 44 occasions across his time in orange.

The defensive flanker is now set to pull on the red, white and blue at Central District, joining the SANFL side following their finals finish to 2025.

"Josh has speed, evasiveness, and a silky left foot which he uses to break the game open," Dogs football manager Mark Ross said.

"We see Josh as a vital acquisition to our team as he will add balance to our inside & outside game.

"Josh despite playing a lot of football across half back & wing will certainly push into our midfield and is very dangerous forward of the ball."

The Bulldogs finished the home and away season in fourth after collecting 11 wins from 18 games, with their campaign coming to an end at the hands of Norwood in the opening week of finals.

The signing of Fahey follows the club's acquisition of midfielder Callum McCarty from South Adelaide
