Former Fremantle forward Joel Western has returned to his former WAFL club Claremont following his departure from the Dockers.

The 20-year-old was cut by Fremantle at the end of the 2022 AFL season after two years with the club, with who he played four games for in the top flight.

Western joined the Dockers through the 2020 National Draft as the 54th overall selection as a local product out of Claremont.

The exciting small forward is now set to return to the Tigers for 2023, with Claremont confirming Western's signature this week.

Western had been linked to a potential AFL lifeline with West Coast this off-season as a train and trial option over.

The Eagles had reportedly weighed up a move for Western through their WAFL program, but instead signed former Bomber Alex Waterman with their sole ex-AFL player list spot for 2023.

Claremont finished third on the WAFL ladder in 2022, winning 13 of their 18 home and away matches before losing the grand final to West Perth by 12 points.
