Former Melbourne champion Garry Lyon has urged the Demons to save their money on other free agents to try to lure GWS' Lachie Whitfield to the club.

“Here’s some unsolicited advice to the Demons. Save your money," Lyon said on SEN Breakfast on Wednesday morning.

Whitefield comes out of contract at the end of the 2020 season.

Melbourne have been strongly linked to Fremantle's Ed Langdon and Giants utility Adam Tomlinson ahead of the 2019 trade period.

“Save your money with Tomlinson and go all in on Whitfield. All in."

Melbourne looks to be active this trade period after a disappointing 2019 campaign.

Ed Langdon's chances of becoming a Melbourne player is high, according to Sam Edmund.

“We’ve said all along that Ed Langdon will get to Melbourne. The Langdon camp has now done all of their due diligence, they met all the other interested clubs and there were a few, but he likes the Dees and the feeling is mutual,” he said.
