Former St Kilda and North Melbourne star Nick Dal Santo has named who he thinks are the most uncompromising competitors of the AFL.
Dal Santo looked at some of the veterans of the competition, given they've got the runs on the board when it comes to playing and attacking the football.
"When you speak about uncompromising, it’s people that for me attack the ball with the same ferocity as when they think they are going to get it," Dal Santo told SEN Afternoons on Wednesday.
At the top of the list, with no surprise, is Geelong captain Joel Selwood who is regularly touted as the toughest player in the competition.
Coming in close second is Luke Hodge, the former Hawthorn premiership captain turned unofficial on-field coach at the Brisbane Lions for the next two seasons.
"Competitor, that is his number one attribute. You have to be, particularly the way he plays his football," Dal Santo said when speaking about Selwood.
"I think he’s the sort of player who could have one arm, one leg and an eye hanging out and he’ll still say coach good to go.
"I look at the skillset of an AFL player – Is he the best kick in the comp? No. Is he in the top ten? No. Handballing? No. But you put down tackling, which is a competitor attitude, contested football, his clearances and then the other one which is hard to put a measurement on – leadership.
"When you put that all together there’s few that compare with him, and as much as you hate him on the field, you do…he is the nicest polite guy, and then you cross the white line and he will do whatever it takes to win a game.
"You respect it. You have to."
Dal Santo also named five others to the list, citing Jack Ziebell, Jack Viney, Rory Sloane, Mitch Robinson and Callan Ward as some of the game's most uncompromising figures.
