Stawell Warriors president Tim Williams has confirmed the termination of former AFL forward, John Anthony.
"We can confirm Stawell Football Club has severed ties with John Anthony effective immediately," Williams told AFL.com.au.
"The club will not make any further comment at this point in time."
Anthony was involved in an incident on the Easter long weekend in Stawell, this incident was a catalyst in the termination of the forward.
He's not one of the elite athletes of the competition, nor will his name be mentioned among the likes of Ablett, Carey and Lockett. But Anthony will hold a special place in the memories of Collingwood fans throughout the country.
He was the 2009 leading goal kicker for the Magpies, but he will be remembered for his after the siren goal that sunk the Crows and sent the Pies into the preliminary final. His post match interview, sent young Anthony to tears and into the hearts of the Collingwood faithful around the nation.
However this seemed to be the peak of his career, as the 2010 season saw minimal starts for the 192cm forward, as he was drafted by Fremantle for the 2011 season.
After leaving Fremantle after the 2012 season, he simply sunk into obscurity. He signed for the Northern Blues in 2014, yet this potential career revival also failed. He recently earned a place in the Stawell Warriors squad, yet as of Friday he and the club parted ways.
