Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes has declared that Patrick Cripps and Marcus Bontempelli will take on the mantle as the game's best two midfielders at the end of the season.

Cornes highlighted a new era where the young duo are primed to take over the likes of Dustin Martin and Patrick Dangerfield.

“I think there are two midfielders who can overtake Dustin Martin and Patrick Dangerfield as the best midfielders,” Cornes said on Channel Nine's Footy Show.

“By the end of this year Marcus Bontempelli and Patrick Cripps will be the game’s best midfielders.

“It is nothing against them but Dangerfield (will be) 29 next month. Martin is nearly 28.

“Marcus Bontempelli…he is 23 years of age. He has over 100 games under his belt. Cripps is almost unstoppable.”
