Kane Cornes has confirmed he and Richmond coach Damien Hardwick had a "robust conversation" on Monday afternoon, after the pair exchanged words over the weekend.

The weekend's feud began on Saturday night during Richmond's big loss to St Kilda, while Cornes tweeting that the Tigers had gotten ahead of themselves after their win over Port Adelaide in the week prior.

After the match, Hardwick took a shot back at Cornes, and said his former premiership teammate was paid to write poor comments like that.

“Seriously, I’d love to see Kane. I’d really love to see Kane,” Hardwick said post-game.

“Don’t get me wrong, that’s his job – he’s there to write shit comments.”

On the Sunday Footy Show, Cornes said he would seek out Hardwick to have a chat with him over the issues, and he did just that on Monday.

“Without divulging too much, it was a pretty robust conversation that we had (on Monday) afternoon,” Cornes told Channel Nine's Footy Classified on Monday night.

“We had it out. I stand by my comments, he stood by his. But I think there is no question that Richmond got ahead of themselves yesterday and I said that to him on the phone.”

Footy Classified co-host Craig Hutchinson asked Cornes if their was some history between the two which the 300-game star agreed with, suggesting Hardwick had been disappointed with a number of his comments over the years.

“We have a premiership reunion every Thursday before the Grand Final. It did get back to me that he was upset with a few comments that I had made over a long period of time, but he made that very clear that he separates me as the media performer and a former teammate. There’s no hard feelings,” Cornes said.
