Collingwood have confirmed the return of 227-game ex-Magpie Shane O'Bree, who has joined the club as their national recruiting manager.
O'Bree moves to the Magpies after an extended period with Geelong, where held an array of roles in the coaching and list management spaces.
The 45-year-old will hold a role alongside list and strategy lead Justin Leppitsch at Collingwood, with the pair - alongside senior coach Craig McRae - former teammates at Brisbane.
โWe are excited to welcome Shane who will support Justin Leppitsch and oversee our talent identification and recruiting strategy and play a key role in scouting and acquiring AFL talent,โ Collingwood footbal boss Charlie Gardiner said.
โShane has a very strong football background with broad coaching, player development and recruiting experience.
โHe has completed a terrific apprenticeship at Geelong where he has established strong relationships throughout the industry and gained experience in successfully identifying and selecting quality players in all parts of the draft.
โAs well as his wealth of football experience, Shane is an outstanding person with a strong connection to our Club and I'm very confident he will be an excellent addition to our team."
O'Bree spent 11 years with Collingwood as a player before linking up with the Gold Coast Suns post-career as an assistant coach.
He joined Geelong ahead of the 2013 season and most recently held a recruiting role at Kardinia Park.
โShane has been integral in helping the Club, working across numerous positions in our football department, first as a coach and more recently as a recruiter,โ Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie said.
โIt is an exciting opportunity for Shane, and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.โ
O'Bree's role at Collingwood will commence in the coming weeks.
