Collingwood is keen for the 2020 AFL season to restart with a Queen's Birthday blockbuster clash against Melbourne.
The June 8 game, played without an audience, would help support Neale Daniher's charity Fight MND.
It is looking more likely that an AFL restart would be around mid-June, but it hasn't stopped Collingwood president Eddie McGuire from holding talks with FightMND board member Bill Guest and Channel 7 boss Lewis Martin on Wednesday.
"They have got a plan in place to do something spectacular. If we could play on the Queen's Birthday that would be right," McGuire said on Footy Classified.
"But at the moment with things being pushed back, it doesn't look like we'll get the pre-season in to do so."
Last year, the annual Queen's Birthday bash between Collingwood and Melbourne helped raised over $1 million dollars for the 'Big Freeze' fundraiser. The money goes towards research into motor neurone disease.
For McGuire, it would be ideal to relaunch Collingwood's campaign on Queen's Birthday; but has conceded "it may not land that way".
The Pies still plan to honour Daniher and raise money for his charity, whenever the game goes ahead.
"That might be the first game, Collingwood and Melbourne and if it is, obviously we'll do something big for the Neale Daniher [charity]," McGuire said.
As the league looks to restart after being shutdown due the COVID-19 pandemic, AFL clubs have voted for June 18 and 25 as possible go-ahead dates.
