Geelong coach Chris Scott has revealed the club is taking a long-term approach with young recruits Ollie Henry and Tanner Bruhn as the Cats hunt their first win of the season.
Both Henry and Bruhn, who landed at Geelong in last year's trade period from Collingwood and GWS respectively, were dropped from the side for Round 4, leading the senior coach to offer some clarification on the dup.
Speaking ahead of Geelong's Easter Monday clash against Hawthorn, Scott said that Henry hadn't been dropped from the side, but would line up as the tactical sub. Bruhn meanwhile will sit out the traditional clash as the Cats welcome back some experienced names, but Scott is adamant the young Cat is a long-term prospect.
"Well we didn't drop Ollie. Ollie will be the sub. That's just a quirk in the system that I am sure will be cleared up at some point," Scott said.
"Tanner won't play. We were really clear at the end of last year when we brought in a couple of 20 year olds in Tanner and Ollie in particular that it was a long term play for us.
"This is a situation where we have a got a few more experienced players back this week. Mitch Duncan will play, [Jake] Kolodjashnij will come back into the team, and Tanner won't be out of our team for too long.
"Irrespective of our results over the next couple of months we are going to manage our list and we will use a big number of players."
Mitch Duncan will play his first game of the season on Monday after calf injury suffered in February, with Scott welcoming the return of the two-time premiership player.
"He is a really good player clearly, but he is a really smart player too. A great communicator, a great on-field leader," Scott said,
"He really understands intimately the things that are important to the way we play. So, it can't be underestimated how bigger a loss he has been."
The reigning premiers are eager to get their first win of the season on the board after a disappointing opening three weeks, while Hawthorn are chasing win number two of the season.
Mitch Duncan, Jake Kolodjashnij, Rhys Stanley and Gary Rohan have been named as inclusions in the 22.
