Geelong GM of Football Simon Lloyd has spoken out on the current state of troubled recruit Jack Steven.

The 30-year old was hospitalised on Saturday night after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest.

Steven is currently recovering from the non-life threatening wound at the Alfred Hospital.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Lloyd confirmed Steven suffered the injury under the right thoracis in his chest and that no further surgery would be required.

“It’s being investigated by the police at the moment so we’ve got to be very careful not to speculate and make assumptions. We’ll allow the police to do all their investigations and at the moment the focus is on health and support for Jack,” Lloyd said.

“Our medical team have spoken to the trauma doctors at the Alfred (Hospital). Where he received the injury was under the right thoracis in his chest. Jack’s very lucky as we speak.

“He is recovering, he doesn’t require any further operations, doesn’t need any exploratory surgery, so that’s a real positive in what is not a great circumstance.”

Lloyd added that Steven's return to the field is not a priority at this point.

“That’s the best-case scenario (integrated back into training) but we’re not even thinking about this at this present point in time,” Lloyd said.

“Since he (Steven) has arrived at the Geelong Football Club he hasn’t missed a beat, he’s training really well and has been in great spirits.

“We need to give him the space that he needs during this point in time and hopefully he does have a quick recovery and we’ll assess where we go from there.”
