Geelong coach Chris Scott has been hit with a suspended $10,000 fine for his role in the quarter-time altercation with several Brisbane players in Round 2.

Lions duo Lachie Neale and Harris Andrews were involved in the heated exchange, with the AFL putting forward a 'please explain' to Scott on Monday.

According toย 7 News'ย Tom Browne, Scott has received a $10,000 fine by the league that will be suspended for the time being.

AFL operations boss Steve Hocking said members of the organisation, particularly coaches, must lead by example.

โ€œEveryone involved in Australian Football has a responsibility to demonstrate respect towards each other at all times โ€“ and that includes coaches towards players and players towards coaches,โ€ he said, perย K Rock.

โ€œWe can never underestimate the impact of the actions of coaches and players at AFL level on all levels of the game.

โ€œI would like to make it clear that if a similar incident occurs, there will be consequences.โ€

Following Geelong's win over the Lions last Friday, Scott said there wasn't too much to discuss in regards to the incident.

โ€œI was walking onto the ground and Lachie Neale just said to me something like โ€” I couldnโ€™t understand exactly what he said โ€” but something about Gary Rohan,โ€ Scott said.

โ€œAnd I said, โ€˜Iโ€™m happy to have the conversation with you if you like. Iโ€™ve seen the vision and Iโ€™m comfortable with it.โ€™

โ€œI suspect he didnโ€™t hear all of that. Thatโ€™s all that was said.

โ€œI think a few of them, they werenโ€™t paying me compliments. I didnโ€™t say anything after that.โ€
