Carlton are highly interested in signing Richmond defender Brandon Ellis and Gold Coast midfielder Jack Martin if they fail to sign Stephen Coniglio.

According to SEN Breakfast's Sam Edmund, Carlton's prospects of landing Coniglio are fading, with speculation rife that the Giants star is set to stay at GWS.

Edmund has spoken to multiple player managers, with the consensus being that Coniglio will sign on.

“For what it is worth, more and more player managers, and I spoke to a lot of them yesterday, believe he will stay at GWS. That noise is very much getting louder,” he told SEN Breakfast.

But Edmund believes that the Blues already have their Plan B in place.

"That would be disappointing for his (Coniglio's) potential suitors like Hawthorn and Carlton, but there will be some compensation there,” he said.

“The Blues are now really strongly linked to Brandon Ellis at Richmond and Jack Martin at Gold Coast.”

Ellis and Martin are both out of contract at the end of 2019.

Martin was heavily linked with a move at the end of 2018, with Carlton and Essendon among the clubs linked to the 24-year-old.
