Carlton will challenge Harry McKay's Striking charge at the AFL Tribunal this week as they look to clear their star forward for Thursday's match against Adelaide.

McKay was handed a one-game suspension by the AFL's Match Review Officer for his hit on North Melbourne youngster Harry Sheezel late into Friday's win over the Kangaroos.

The MRO viewed McKay's actions as Careless Conduct, Medium Impact and High Contact, warranting a one-game ban for the Blues spearhead.

Carlton confirmed on Tuesday morning that they will challenge the ban at the Tribunal, which will take place on Tuesday evening.

It's likely the Blues will look to lower the level of the impact grading, which was graded as medium, to low, which would see Mckay cleared to play and receive a fine instead of a suspension.

After booting four goals against North Melbourne on Good Friday, McKay looms as a key piece in Carlton's hopes to extend their unbeaten run when they face Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

The case will be one of two challenges the Tribunal will hear on Tuesday, with Richmond's Tom Lynch referred directly to the Tribunal for his Rough Conduct charge from Saturday's game against the Western Bulldogs.
