Carlton defender Mitch McGovern has penned a one-year contract extension after he was made to wait until after the AFL Trade Period before signing on.
McGovern played the first 17 games of the season before being omitted and failing to hit a contract trigger which would have automatically extended his time in the navy blue.
The 145-game 31-year-old was a reliable member of the Blues' backline in 2025 and will have an important role to play with Jack Silvagni departing, Harry O'Farrell sidelined with an ACL injury and Matthew Carroll and likely father-son pickup Harry Dean still developing.
“Mitch's versatility at both ends of the ground, combined with the experience he brings will see him add some flexibility to our side next season,” Carlton head of list management Austin said.
“He fits seamlessly into our structure and helps strengthen our team across the field in a number of positions.
“We look forward to seeing him back at IKON Park and getting stuck into pre-season training.”
McGovern has played 97 games for Carlton after being traded to the Blues ahead of the 2019 season.
