Carlton three-time premiership player Mark Maclure says his former club needs to scrap their new game style and revert to their โboringโ defensive style of play if they want to win games this year.
Maclure believes the club does not have the talent to execute Blues coach Brendan Bolton's new, more attacking style of play.
Carlton are also missing a number of key players which has not helped their 2018 campaign. All Australian defender Sam Docherty is recovering from a ruptured ACL, Bryce Gibbs was traded to Adelaide and skipper Marc Murphy is expected to miss an extended period with a foot injury.
"Bolton started the first few years (and), he had a defensive mechanism that worked, that kept them in games," Maclure said on Fox Footyโs AFL 360 last night.
"They fought, they chased, they tackled, they worked really hard. I hope he goes back to it (defensive style).
"Because if you're going to get the chop in this business, you want to go out your way - not someone else's.
"The media say 'you should be going forward (more) now, you should be kicking 15 goals now'.
"Why would you want to do that? If you're good at what you do, and you get better at it (then why stop?). They've changed dramatically, they've lost all these players and they're still trying to play that fast, moving game.
"They can't do it. They need to change back to what they did before."
Carlton faces West Coast this Saturday as they search for their first win of the season.
