New St Kilda recruit Jake Carlisle will wear the No. 2 for the Saints in 2016 the club has announced.

The high-priced defender, who made the switch from Essendon in the off-season has been allocated the number formerly worn by legendary defender Danny Frawley and most recently forward Aaron Hamill.

Carlisle wore the No. 22 jumper in recent seasons with the Bombers. Fellow recruit Nathan Freeman will don the No. 10 at his new club after being traded from Collingwood.

There were nine new numbers assigned at St Kilda, with Jack Lonie, who wore No. 37 in 2015, deciding to adopt Adam Schneider's No. 13.

Hugh Goddard has moved from No. 33 into the No. 23 - made famous by key forward Stewart Loewe.

First-round draft pick (No. 18 overall) Jade Gresham has been handed Farren Ray's old No. 22 while fellow draftee Brandon White will wear 31.

Father-son pick Bailey Rice has been allocated the No. 37 jumper and rookie selections Nick O'Kearney and Nick Coughlan have been allocated No. 33 and No. 38 respectively.
