Channel 7 commentator and former league footballer Brian Taylor was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon after sustaining injuries following an explosion in the Gippsland region of the state.

According to reports from The Herald Sun, Taylor, 59, was treated on-site by paramedics for injuries sustained to the upper body after emergency services were call to a property in the town of Walhalla earlier today.

The former Tiger and Magpie was then airlifted to hospital from the site of the accident, with an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson claiming that the Western Australian native had suffered "minor burns to his face".

Further reporting suggest that Taylor had suffered his ailments whilst trying to amend issues with his hot water service.

With the incident not causing a fire and Taylor's wounds set to heal rapidly, the caller will reportedly be back in the booth for the commencement of the finals series this weekend.

Taylor will remain at the Alfred as he undergoes "routine monitoring and observation".
