Melbourne forward Tom McDonald has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal, shutting down the idea of the 25-year-old finding another home during free agency.

After eight years at the club, McDonald qualifies as a free agent, but has secured his future until the end of the 2022 season at the Demons.

“Tom is in his eighth year at the club, he was recruited as a ruckman/forward who played the first seven years as a key defender,” Melbourne's General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

“Now playing as a forward since his return this year, Tom has been providing us a great target and working well with our other forward options.

“Tom was a free agent this year and his signing is another positive sign for the environment that is being created at the club.”

McDonald has played just six games in 2018, but has won all six of them, booting 19 goals during that time.

He has quickly become one of the power forwards in the competition.
